E·S·Robbins Corporation's Fold-a-Mat® has the same hardness across the entire surface, including the fold. Other brands use soft vinyl to create a folding point in the middle of the chairmat. That softness creates a "gutter" that gives way to the pressure of chair casters and creates a rut in the middle of the mat. Fold-a-Mat® stays smooth and flat.
